- Algarve Golf Courses
The Algarve is the perfect golf region. An increasing number of superb golf courses, designed by renowned architects with superb layouts, mean that the Algarve is set to stay a firm favourite for golfers.
- Amendoeira Golf Resort
Casa Alegre has views over the Amendoeira Golf Resort and is 5 minutes drive from the villa in the district of Silves, and only 35 minutes from Faro airport. Silves is a region steeped in history. Occupied by the Romans, and later the Moors, Silves became a prosperous town, rivaling Lisbon as a centre of culture.
Many fascinating remains attest to this rich heritage, including the Sé Velha (Old Cathedral) completed in the 15th century, the 4/5th century castle and parts of the old city wall. Today Silves is a thriving town with many bars and restaurants serving traditional local cuisine.
The Faldo Course
Designed by Nick Faldo, with strategic play in mind, this course demands careful positioning to score well; rocky outcrops, meandering watercourses and views to the distant mountains and orange groves define its essential character.
The O'Connor Jnr. Course
Perfectly complementing the Faldo Course whilst taking advantage of the rich valley soil in contrast to the arid hillside, this course offers no less of a challenge. Large areas of water demand accurate play and creative shot making and these lakes and streams are to be maintained as a wildlife sanctuary.
- Gramacho Golf Course
Gramacho golf course is about 25 mins drive from Casa Alegre and is a Pestana Golf Resort. Nick Price has teamed up with the well-known golf course architect, Ronald Fream, to create a uniquely designed 18 hole course with 27 varied greens that enable the golfer to play the same course several times with different greens and new challenges.
Experienced golfers will be able to confirm that they have played a good course, with a challenging 72 par over a more-than-sufficient length of 6,107 meters.
- Oceanico Golf Academy / Tuition
The Oceânico Academy at Amendoiera Golf Resort is situated 5 minutes from Casa Alegre and hosts practice facilities and amenities for the amateur and tour professional alike. Worldclass instructors are available to offer all golfers private or group instruction with the most uptodate teaching aids and technology.
- Silves Golf Course
Silves Golf Course is about 8 minutes drive from Casa Alegre and is a serene spot, but the course is anything but the proverbial walk in the park. A drive at the opening hole has to flirt with two water hazards on both flanks. A heroic and straight shot will reward the player with an easy uphill approach. Silves encourages and rewards attacking play. The excellent condition, all year round, is ideal for low scoring. A relentless test in precision, this course has no peers. It is the archetype of man-sized parkland golf. Most holes offer a spectacular mountain and valley view, overlooking palm trees and olive groves. The severity of the bunkering is enough defence against the onslaught of the games big guns.
- The Old Course Vilamora
Casa Alegre is Situated circa 25 mins from Vilamoura. This Frank Pennink designed parkland style layout is one of the oldest in the region and renowned all over the golfing world.
Often described as the Grande Dame of Algarve courses, it meanders throughout impressive pinetrees - the principal hazard - over gently undulating natural terrain. Although it opened in 1969, the course was completely renovated and modernised 27 years later although no major changes were made to the magnificent layout.
In addition to raising the Vilamoura Old Course to new heights of quality, an attractive new clubhouse and adjacent putting green were also built at that time.
